Purple Class (Year 5)

Hello and Welcome to Purple Class

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am happy to welcome my new Year 5 class. This will be the third time I have taught a year 5 cohort at Haymerle, and I would hope that I can continue with this class through year 6 and support them with their secondary transitions next year.

We have a great classroom team this year and have already developed good relationships with the children.

Our topic this term is ‘That’s Life’, so we will be looking at different body parts and how they work. We will be making the lessons as practical as possible, to improve the children’s functional skills and independence. We will also be exploring transport, which is always a popular topic with the children.

Our year 5 classes are swimming this year, which the children have been absolutely loving. We have already seen pupils who were hesitant to enter the pool, becoming more and more confident and independent, over the space of a few weeks. It will be interesting to see how much progress they can make over the next two years.

We have already had some exciting projects taking place this term; we had a national champion sprinter visit and run some sports circuits in the gym and we have also had an outreach worker representing the national archives, run a history-based workshop about Victorian times, which the pupils really enjoyed. Music therapy also continues to be a big success, with the attending pupils engaging well and getting a lot out of the sessions.

Please follow the link to see what we are learning: Curriculum Maps We are working in Year A this year.

I have already had the pleasure of meeting with most of the parents of my new class and it makes me very happy to know that our children are being supported at home, as well as in school.

I look forward to the year ahead, I know that we are going to have an amazing time!

Thanks,

James Rowley
