In the Autumn Term, our topic is: Whatever the Weather.

Please note that our PE sessions will be on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please send a PE kit in.

We are a healthy School and we ask that parents/carers send in healthy snacks for your child. Please remember to send in water bottles.

Maths

Throughout the term, we will be looking at all the areas of maths as well as working on our individual goals that you can see on the Curriculum Goals sheet.

Number 

  • we will be linking our counting, addition and subtraction to the weather topic – counting clouds, suns, sorting how many colours are on the rainbow themed maths activities

Measure

  • we will be exploring with different cloud sizes, rainbow sizes.

Geometry

  • we will be focussing on learning different shapes and relate them with the weather.

Literacy and Communication

In Literacy we will be working on our individual goals throughout the term, which you can see on My Curriculum Goals Sheet

Every day we will be focussing on Reading, including phonics, Writing and communication as well as working on our individual tasks at our workstations.

The class will read a selection of weather stories together which will allow learners to sequence events and engage through images. We will read: The Sun and the Cloud, We are going on a leaf hunt, Rain during the term.

We will be enjoying our reading corner in the classroom too, sharing books with each other and the adults in our classroom.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

(Science, Geography, History, RE, Computing)

Science

  • this term we will learning about forces and motion, specifically ‘pushing’ and ‘pulling’, linking this to our topic on Pirates. We will be learning about how things move and how we can make them move in different ways.

Geography

  • we will be learning about life on an Island and how it is different to where we live in London. We will explore how islands are made. Hopefully we will find some treasure on our desert island too!

RE

  • we will be learning about diwali and all behind this celebration

Physical and Social Development

(PE and PSHE)

PE

  • we are learning about dance this term and ‘moving stories’. We will be looking at different ways that we can move.

PSHE

  • we are learning about rules this term and how they are important in our lives. We will be learning about rules that we follow to keep us safe as well what happens when we follow them or don’t. The class will also focus on healthy eating. The learners will be exploring this through cooking different meals in the class

Creative Development

(Art, Music, DT)

Art

  • this term we are learning about painting techniques and what happens when we add water to our paint. We will be painting sea and boats and looking at the work of Turner to see how he painted stormy seas. We will be painting some pictures of pirate ships too!

Music

  • we will be creating some pirate music and sound effects to go with stories. We are also learning to tune into sounds and to select instruments using PECS.

What I Need in School This Term and Ideas to Help Me with My Learning

I will need to bring in my PE Kit every week.

Please also returning reading books so that we can replace them once finished.
