Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome back to the new term – I hope you and your family had an enjoyable and restful break. We are looking forward to starting the new academic year together. Your class team for this year will be

We will follow the same routine as in the previous year with Literacy and Numeracy lessons in the morning and Topic lessons in the afternoons. I have enclosed a summary sheet of the Topic for this term – please feel free to engage in any activities at home that might support additional learning.

PE will continue as before – please could you provide a PE kit as specified in the attached letter from the PE coordinator. We can keep this in school until half term.

Literacy and Communication

Writing

  • In writing, we are working on writing and reading our own sentences
  • Learning to form all the letters of the alphabet
  • Using sernsory materials to explore mark making

Reading        

  • In reading we are learning how to blend letter sounds to make words.
  • Working on recognising different environmental noises.
  • Learning to make the sounds of all the graphemes in phase 2
  • Reading all the words in our reading books without help

Numeracy and Problem Solving

Number

  • Understanding 1:1 correspondence

Geography – what is an island and how is it formed

  • Pupils begin to experience what life was like on an Elizabethan ship

RE – Why did Jesus tell stories

  • Jesus used familiar, earthly examples from village and farm life to make abstract concepts understandable to everyone. 

ICT - learning to have some basic skills using ICT equipment
